What is Serpentine tribal fusion? the darker side of Bellydance..
Serpentine Tribal Fusion is a powerful, mysterious and hypnotic style of belly dance. A new generation of belly dancer has evolved and this particular form of belly dancing takes elements from popular dance styles such as hip hop, flamenco, classical Indian and ballet which are fused together to create this exciting new wave of modern belly dance. Often electronic music with heavy beats or a gypsy vaudeville big band style of music is used to reflect this modern yet edgy belly dance evolution.
What to expect in these workshop’s
Workshop 1 / Pure Technique – Just drills & mini combinations.
This class starts with a Jazz / Ballet inspired conditioning and stretch workout important for any belly dancer wanting to gain a strong dance technique while strengthening and sculpting the body to improve posture, body confidence and clean footwork.
Core belly dance movements are then drilled from fluid undulations and sinuous hip work to powerful pops and hits, developing and refining our movement vocabulary adding foot patterns and traveling turns to create exciting routines. All movements are broken down, drilled and placed into mini combinations helping you take your dance to the next level.
This workshop can be taken on its own, you do not need to take the second workshop if you are all about pure technique rather than routine.
Workshop 2 / Pure Routine – Time to put it all together and dance!
In this workshop you will learn a routine that both reflects and celebrates the heart of serpentine tribal bellydance. Expect sinuous serpentine movement throughout the body with explosive and exciting pop combinations to create dynamic contrast in your dance. Layering hip and upper body movement over complex foot patterns will be achieved along with travelling turns and unique flair. During this routine I hope students understand the beginnings of musicality including how movement best fits a piece of music while executing a short complex routine. See below video for this workshops class routine.
It is recommended that if you are not an advanced dancer in serpentine tribal bellydance it would be highly beneficial to be present during workshop 1 in which all the movements for the full routine will be broken down and drilled to best understand each individual movement or for refining a cleaner technique.
Note – I am also currently teaching sections of this routine in my weekly classes for those who would like to prep prior to the workshop or after it. Drop in to weekly classes is always welcome.

“Darkstar is a fabulous, talented and inspirational teacher. I haven’t met anyone more passionate about dance. She pushes me to work harder and challenge myself. I love her classes; they are energetic and challenging but most importantly they are fun with some awesome music! I have learned so much from her; self-discipline, confidence, perseverance and musicality in dance. Thank you so much!”Renja Salonen
“High energy, structured, explosive classes packed with killer content is what you can expect when training with Darkstar. She is an incredibly skilled technical dancer with an electric stage presence and strives to pass these skills on to her students. I was amazed at how quickly my knowledge and technique built up over time. I was also delighted to develop a contoured waist that I have not had for over 20 years! Training with Darkstar has equipped me for performance and really improved my fitness to boot.” – Nilmini Francis
“I’ve been lucky enough to have had Darkstar as a teacher & mentor for the last few years. The professionalism, skill & variety you see in her first class performances translate to her tutoring; with her trademark emphasis on technique, style, motivation & originality … with a dark twist! I have learnt so much, and she always manages to pull something new out of the bag for her excellent workshops. Who knew learning, drilling & working up a sweat could be such fun?” – Brenny Lewis
“Kerry is a fantastic teacher with well thought out structured classes and workshops, focusing on technique which is perfect for both dancers new to tribal and those who want to improve. I love Kerry’s choreographies which are challenging but exciting to learn and perform. She is an inspiring teacher and I highly recommend training with her to take your dancing to the next level.” – Natasha
“Awesome classes, good fun but also challenging. Darkstar really pushes you and gives you individual feedback (in a nice way ; ) so you can identify your weaker areas and work on them. Its a great mixture of drilling and working on individual moves to improve technique AND working on choreographies and exploring things like musicality to improve performance skills. Plus its a super friendly class and great music!” – Kate Bowgette
